Walk in My Shoes - Readers' Favorite Book Review seal
"This mini treatise [Walk in My Shoes] expounds the broadest worldview, the most inclusive form of tolerance, and the greatest liberality of conscience. In other words, reading all these personal stories of compassionate people sowing empathetic inspiration in the world will crack your hard shell of ignorance and indifference. Not an insignificant achievement, by any means. "

Maersk Corporation Kindness

2/23/2021

I read a few Wall Street Journal articles most mornings to stay tuned into world-wide business. I wrote this comment to WSJ journalist Costas Paris about his article in the February 19, 2021, issue:

Dear Costas:

I read your article, “Maersk Plans to Put Carbon-Neutral Container Ship in Operation in Two Years,” with joy. And then to hear about the Maersk goal for “an entirely carbon-neutral fleet by 2050” is wonderfully hopeful: a true move toward kindness to this planet. May many other companies commit to the same and follow through with their plans. [Maersk, a Danish shipping company, is involved in ocean and inland freight transportation and other related services, such as supply chain and port operations.]

To explain my interest, I am the author of the new book, Walk in My Shoes: The Path to Empathy and Compassion (2020), and believe that actions like Maersk’s to retool industrial practices are acts of kindness that will greatly ensure our Earth’s survival. Of course, there are economic considerations with every move, but there will be no sustainable economy without many other corporations rethinking their platforms and following through as Maersk intends.

My question: How can we be kinder to the self, the other, and our planet?

Thank you for your promising article.

Sincerely,

Cliff Hakim

Cliff Hakim Walk in My Shoes: The Path to Empathy and Compassion. Reader story.
Black and white heel opposites
In a follow up to your sending me the copy of your amazing book, Walk in My Shoes: The Path to Empathy and Compassion, I want to let you know that it served as the basis for my running a program for my synagogue women's group that took place last week on Zoom.

To start off the program, I showed your book through the camera and read your paragraph on page four stating that shoes are an amazing metaphor and told the attendees about your interest in art and making this world a better place. They were quickly engaged.

I presented the program asking each person to bring a pair of shoes that represents or represented something notable in their lives. And asked them to share: "Why did you choose this pair?" "Where have your shoes taken you literally and figuratively?"

This made for a lively, introspective, relaxed and very enjoyable program for all.

Love,
Roz
