A compendium of empathy and compassion as lived and experienced in a world overfilled with the need for both...Author Cliff Hakim...Why have we retreated from our neighbors, putting up psychological and physical walls? The best way for me to answer this was to go out and search for individuals who have learned how to walk in other people’s shoes.
I interviewed both ordinary people who are proof that we do still care for one another and have the will to make things better, that empathy and compassion are the glue of American society, that kindness is a pillar of strength. Then I explored the importance of compassionate leadership — people who can help us bring this quality to our larger organizations and institutions. For each person I interviewed, I drew his or her favorite shoe. I ended up with 33 walk storyteller stories with shoes, each of which I briefly introduce. This became my book, Walk in My Shoes: The Path to Empathy and Compassion. Quotes from Readers' Favorite Review
